A recent article in CHEM.info entitled "Recycling in the Heartland" by Jeff Reinke explored the role niche companies such as ORG CHEM Group play in managing industrial chemicals that otherwise would become waste. As sustainability has become more accepted, industries are developing around the recycling and repurposing of chemicals that not only reduce the extraction of finite raw material supplies but also save companies money. While it seems an obvious solution, it has taken time to develop this approach because it requires employees and companies to look at things from different perspectives. It also requires innovative companies like ORG CHEM Group to develop and explain the technologies and opportunities to the generators and collectors of the chemicals.

Below are selected excerpts from the article. To read more, please go to the CHEM.info website.

"Ranging from feedstock such as used antifreeze to applications that include aerospace coatings, ORG CHEM Group has thrived by finding unique ways to recycle and repurpose what many saw as simply chemical byproducts, or even waste into a profitable business."

" (The Company) employs more than 100 people at three facilities in Troy, Indiana, Hot Springs, Arkansas and at its base of operations in Evansville. In addition to custom toll-processing projects, the company produces several repurposed and virgin products under their own brand names such as Thermaflo? heat transfer fluids, Polyflo? aromatic oils, and PolyFreeze? antifreeze."

"In addition to their insight on new opportunities within the custom tolling and chemical reclamation marketplace, the technological approach (short path distillation) embraced by ORG CHEM Group has been key to their growth and differentiation within a very competitive industry. Short path distillation gets its name from the shorter distance, or path, that the desired substance travels once it has been separated from the original feedstock. This feedstock, which could range from antifreeze to biodiesel byproducts, is heated at lower temperatures than most reclamation processes. It's also placed under vacuum, but for a shorter time. The reduced exposure to both heat and vacuum allow for ORG CHEM Group's Pfaudler-style evaporators to extract the desired substances in a gentler manner, safeguarding against damage that can occur with more aggressive exposure to heat and vacuum."

Owners Resource Group of Austin, Texas recently acquired ORG CHEM GROUP. The management of ORG CHEM Group has wanted to grow the business and now they have the financing they feel they need to do so.

ORG CHEM Group is an environmentally conscious company that specializes in recycling and repurposing of chemicals that not only reduce the extraction of finite raw material supplies but also save companies money.
