Priorities - Key to Overcoming Procrastination Priorities - Key to Overcoming Procrastination

Do you understand how everybody discusses priorities and resolutions at the beginning of the season? Well, I sort of use it off.

If procrastination were a separate nation, it could be the biggest nation on the planet, but we'd never know because no one would bypass to counting the people. Allow me to share a couple of quotes I looked up when I will have been doing something different (these are from stopprocrastinatinginfo.com):

Mark Twain said, "Never put off until tomorrow what you are able to do the day after tomorrow."

Joe Ryan said: "There's nothing to fit curling up with an excellent book when there is a repair job to be achieved around the house." https://www.themigration.com.au

Author Unknown also had several comments on procrastination: https://www.themigration.com.au

"You understand you are getting old when it takes a lot of effort to procrastinate."
"I actually do my work at once each day-the last minute."
"Only Robinson Crusoe had everything done by Friday."
Some might be surprised that I am admitting to presenting a problem with procrastination. You see, could work the past 30 years has been just deadlines, and I've done my best and pushed myself, and I've met significantly more than 99 percent of these deadlines.

But the problem is, I have found YOU CAN'T DO EVERYTHING! So, I understand I have put off and neglected many considerations, while meeting small deadlines. So what I'm trying to understand is how to know when to procrastinate, and when not to. More accurately:

What things can we procrastinate about, and what should we never put off?

I've unearthed that over time management, it's exactly about priorities.

1. Our first priority is to create priorities.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus Christ presented the basics of the Christian means of life. In Matthew 6 He gave numerous examples to exhibit where our priorities should be. He also allows us to know what is worth fretting about, and I know that many of us procrastinators also are having issues with worry. We worry so much about how to do something that people don't get it done, and then we concern yourself with the effects of our procrastination! But Jesus Christ gives us the antidote to worry and the main element to the top utilization of our time.

Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these exact things will be put into you."

So what exactly of God must have first priority within our lives! Things like prayer and Bible study and loving and looking after our families, serving our brethren and the widows, writing cards to the sick and the shut-ins, helping with Church activities, and... Whoa! Even these exact things need to be prioritized! We can become overwhelmed with and become weary with doing good!

So we also need to remember other good things that are part of God's life-style, like getting enough sleep, eating a healthier diet, getting exercise, keeping up with the most important international news, continuing our education, being a good employee, keeping our home in good condition and so on.

So, after all these priorities, where does that leave hobbies and entertainment? When they're uplifting and positive and we are able to fit them in, these diversions are great! God wants us to enjoy life and be balanced. But you'll probably find that after putting most of the priorities in first, there's less time for any questionable entertainment, and there definitely is almost no time for time wasters and degrading entertainment.

So, as we produce a prioritized listing of priorities, it can benefit us with another point of decision making. When someone comes for you with an invitation or an opportunity comes as much as get involved in something, what can you do? We've to consider where it fits within our priority list. We've to incorporate up the hours within our day. We've to count the fee and produce a decision.

2. Don't overcommit.

In Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 Solomon is making a point about a vow to God. That's a critical commitment that people should uphold to the fullest. In the New Testament we're told to swear not at all, but our "yes" should have the same truthful force like we'd vowed. So let's consider how to use Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 within our promises and commitments:

"Once you produce a vow to God, do not delay to cover it; for He doesn't have pleasure in fools. Pay everything you have vowed-better never to vow than to vow and not pay."

Better to say no than to say yes however not follow through. After all these years, I am hoping I'm understanding how to slightly when to say no, when never to commit to something. I would love to grab every visitor who concerns the airport. I would love to simply help with every move. I would love to simply help with every activity. But sometimes, when other priorities like family are now being neglected, you have to say no.

But enough about "no." Christ also said, let your "yes" be "yes." And my third point is:

3. Do what exactly you prioritize and promise to do.

Doing could be the antidote to analysis paralysis and procrastination. In another of His parables, Jesus contrasts two servants. One servant figured his master was delayed, so there was no urgency in doing his job. In fact, he just made a decision to party and act like he'd constantly in the world.

But another servant is the main one we desire to be like. Luke 12:42-43 says: "And the Lord said,'Who then is that faithful and wise steward, who his master is likely to make ruler over his household, to provide them their part of food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master will see so doing when he comes."

Allow me to end with a couple of more inspirational quotes:

Gerald Vaughan said, "Procrastination is something best put off until tomorrow."
George Claude Lorimer said, "Postponing an easy thing helps it be hard. Postponing a hard thing helps it be impossible."
And Author Unknown, in all his wisdom, said, "The simplest way to obtain something done is always to begin."
So let's work this week on focusing on priorities and fighting procrastination, and becoming a lot more like our Father in heaven.

As Anne Frank said, "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment prior to starting to enhance the world"!
