It’s Our Time, the celebrated inaugural novel by Diane Krauss, has been released today in hardcover, on July 9th, 2019 by Zimbell House Publishing. Trends within the present political climate in the United States inspired Krauss to ask, “what if?”
In the future America Krauss has created, the US Constitution has been abolished, as well as the founding fathers. In their place is a new set of founding fathers has been established, and President Torrent heads the United States, along with her cohort. Ruling over a socialist society, Torrent’s government provides all goods to their constituents. However, this society doesn’t exactly exude equality. The Elites live in lavish Villages, while civilians live within the walls within the warring Divisions.
One day, a young nurse, El, decides she needs to do something. Not exactly sure of what can be done, she decides that action is best executed in numbers. With her best friend, Kai, and a mysterious new friend, Pratt, the three together make a plan to com-bat the forces that have destroyed their district and society as they once knew it.
Laurie T., an early reviewer of this book, comments, “I was totally immersed in this dystopian world. I’ve read a good deal of dystopian fiction… My favorites are when the author builds a world that seems as if it could realistically happen, which is the case in this book. I loved the world building, I could see it in my mind, and I believe something similar could really occur. I loved the characters, and felt most were true to how people would react. I loved the story and the writing style.”
Diane Krauss took inspiration from the current trend of a more youthful embracement of socialism. She felt that while socialism is a trend, current interpretations may not consider what the actual reality of socialism could be. Diving into that fictional envi-ronment led her to imagine the factors of that reality, and create a world that took the potential of socialism to an entirely new level.
