[SYDNEY, 09/12/2015] – The Australian Institute of Eye Surgery (AIES), headed by esteemed surgeon Dr Ronald Binette in North Sydney, offers new lens implant for cataract surgery. Together with the laser technology and vision correction treatments, AIES aims to offer personalised care to their patients.

Correcting Cataract

Cataract is a leading cause of vision impairment with the clouding of the clear lens. Normally, it develops as people age, but it can also develop early in younger people; some are even born with the vision impairment.

The Australian Institute of Eye Surgery performs small incision cataract surgery. This treatment involves an incision between 1 and 2.5 mm in the cornea and passes instruments through into the eye. The procedure will remove the cataract and an artificial lens will be inserted where the cloudy lens used to be.

The new intraocular lens is now available for implantation. Multifocal IOL (Intraocular lens Implant) and Toric IOL are specifically designed to minimise or eliminate the need for reading glasses and treat astigmatism.

Presbyopia is a common condition among people over the age of 45 wherein they begin to lose the ability to focus clearly up close. With Multifocal IOL, the symptoms of Presbyiopa are reduced for the patient. Multifocal IOL allows for clear distance and near vision without glasses after cataract surgery.

For patients with pre-existing astigmatism, Toric IOL may minimise the eye problem. This lens is implanted and aligned to offset the distortion of astigmatism in the cornea. Toric IOL, meanwhile, helps minimise astigmatism unlike standard IOL.

The Institute’s services ensure every patient receives personalised care. With full understanding that each patient is different and has different vision problems, the institute offers a range of services and innovations to cater to each patient’s needs.
