Around the world, competent speakers of English in the workplace have never been so much in demand. Unfortunately, many people may find that their use of English in real work settings needs improvement.
London Learning Centre offers the following tuition options:
• Private tutorials: these can be paid for individually (£30 per tutorial) or as part of a discounted package. Students are taught speaking skills, negotiation strategies, letter and email writing skills, or other skills necessary in the workplace.
• Trinity College London Spoken English for Work (SEW) examination preparation courses.
Trinity College London Spoken English for Work (SEW) examinations address this growing demand by offering a face-to-face assessment which measures spoken English in a working context relevant to the chosen profession of the candidate.
The exams will benefit non-native speakers from any profession where English language proficiency is either a requirement or an opportunity for better career prospects and promotion. As the examinations are not aimed at a specific sector of the workforce, they apply equally well to professionals, office workers, service workers and business people.
Candidates may choose one of the following four levels of SEW:
• SEW1 – CEFR B1 (Intermediate)
• SEW2 – CEFR B2.1 (Strong Intermediate)
• SEW3 – CEFR B2.3 (Upper-Intermediate)
• SEW4 – CEFR C1 (Advanced)
SEW examinations give candidates confidence in the real world of work by providing valuable practice in telephone conversations, formal and informal presentations and an opportunity to discuss work issues in an English-speaking environment.
The exam focuses on the speaking and listening skills that are used in everyday working environments. All of the tasks are contextualised around the world of work including a Telephone task — a work-related telephone call between the candidate and the examiner. The assessment also takes into account a wide range of employment tasks, allowing each candidate to communicate about their individual work-related experiences.
Successful SEW candidates receive a certificate which indicates their chosen topic category, such as ‘Advertising & Media’ or ‘Hospitality & Tourism’.
