You've got a fantastic radio show, but you wish to make it better. How do you create those interviews along with your great guests actually pop? Here are my top 5 tips for a great interview.
Tip #1. Know Your Guest
You had to have some reason to get this individual in your show, so presumably you know something about them, but the more you understand, the more likely you are to get the kind of interview you desire. You do not need to know what kind of tea the drink (unless you're interviewing them in person) but you need to understand more about the subject you will be asking them about. Listen to additional interviews they have done if possible. Read their publication, or at least a synopsis. Have a look at their site. Who is this individual, and exactly what do they have to offer to your viewers?
Tip #2. What exactly do your listeners want to know?
You have a lot in common with your audience or they wouldn't listen to a show. What things do you really want to know about this guest or their topic? When it is professional or personal, if you would like to know it, then your viewers probably does also. What intrigued you about this guest? Why did you need them on your show? Utilize your most burning questions to get your audience exactly what they would like to hear.
Tip #3. Have your Questions Ready
Often guests will have a list of questions they'd like to get requested. In case you your burning questions aren't in their list, send your questions to them. Unless you prefer controversy on your display or enjoy shocking guests, it is best that both parties understand what will get asked. It is nice to have follow up questions about the exact same subject, just don't hit on them with things such as,"So, I hear you are getting a divorce!" Unless you never need to interview this individual (or any of the buddies ) again. Use your list of questions to keep you on course throughout the interview.
Tip #4. Set Your Audience's Expectations
What would you like your listeners to escape this meeting? Make sure in your advertising beforehand that you just set your audience expectations so. Should they are in expecting that a hard hitting interview and you give them fluff, they won't keep listening. If they're anticipating a religious experience and you struck them with challenging science, much about spirituality, it will jar them. Ensure that your audience anticipates the expertise you plan to give them.
Tip #5. Know Your Guest's Products/Books
Your guest is an expert in their area. Otherwise, why do you're interviewing them? Know enough about that area to ask smart questions. If their latest book just came out, take some time to read it. Your show isn't all about selling, but when your audience is interested in the topic, let them know where they can get more in it. Ensure that your guest knows that this interview is not all about selling. You need good information and some thing helpful your crowd can have now, not merely hype and also a promise of more when they purchase something. The more information your audience receives, the more likely they are supposed to want more. Make sure your guest knows that, too.
