HPV affects millions of people every year. Doctor Eric Yahav is an OB/GYN who provides his patients with the HPV vaccine.

The human papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that infects millions of sexually active adults every year. Doctor Eric Yahav is a gynecologist and obstetrician who works with his patients to help them avoid contracting STIs and especially HPV. There are three vaccinations available for HPV, which could be lifesaving. There are several facts and statistics that people should know about HPV so that they can avoid contracting it.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), “about 79 million Americans are currently infected with HPV.” Each year, about 14 million more become infected. Nearly every sexually active adult contracts this virus at some point in their life. Some people contract HPV and never know it. Symptoms do not appear, and they are not affected. However, each person reacts differently to this virus. Some people have symptoms appear several years after contracting it. In some cases, HPV appears as genital warts, while in other cases it can cause cervical cancer, and other cancer in men and women’s genitals. These cancers are directly linked to HPV and can be life threatening if they are not detected in the early stages.

In 2006, an HPV vaccine was developed. There are three different shots that are administered over a six-month time period. Eric Yahav is one of the many gynecologists who administers these lifesaving vaccines. The HPV vaccine has been proven to be safe and highly effective in men and women between the ages of 11 and 26. These vaccines help stop the spread of HPV and reduces the risk of cancer caused by this virus. However, the vaccination is not effective for women over the age of 26. For women over this age, the best way to prevent cervical cancer is to get yearly cancer screenings.

According to the CDC, the numbers of teens and young adults infected with HPV has drastically dropped since the vaccine was released. Young men and women can get this vaccination at their doctor’s office. Doctor Eric Yahav is an experienced OB/GYN. He helps his patients avoid contracting STIs and HPV by educating them about safe sex and the availability of vaccinations.
