One in five young people in the U.S. experience a mental, emotional or behavioral health disorder such as depression.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

One in five young people in the U.S. experience a mental, emotional or behavioral health disorder such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic disorders, ADHD, bipolar and other serious problems. In Bexar County, Texas alone, there are an estimated 80,000 children affected by mental health disorders. While there is an 80 percent success rate for treating such disorders, too few children are being treated because of lack of insurance, lack of access to care, or in many cases, the stigma associated with having a mental health disorder. Only 20% of those suffering receive treatment. Studies show that untreated children are twice as likely to abuse drugs and alcohol.

One in Five Minds is a 501.c3 organization with a high success rate dealing with mental health disorders. They are working in tandem with a Vermont local publisher, Babypie Publishing, on a powerful book project that will feature 50 Amazing Young People that will share Their Stories of Inspirations and transformation. This book asks young people to answer three thought-provoking questions which will challenge them to reach out for support from family members, peers, counselors, or teachers to find their answers. “Projects like this are a powerful way to give back and raise well-deserved funds for organizations that do great work in the world” says Keith Leon, CEO of Babypie Publishing “One in Five Minds is one of those organizations.” The answers will bring awareness to the fact that they, as young as they are, have truly made a difference in the lives of others. Teens will come out on the other side with a sense of self-worth that they may not have realized or experienced before.

The publishing company is now in the fundraising step of this powerful project. It takes $100,000 to fund this project; a 30 day campaign launches today (March 4th, 2014) to raise the funds.
