Even though it may seem absurd, most medical professionals in the United States still use medical uniforms. This means that they don't feel the need to wear anything but a white sheet covering their bodies. The funny thing is, they probably have more important things to worry about than what doctors, nurses, and emergency room staff members are wearing. Let's face this: there's little to no difference in the scrubs and the white sheets.

Not wearing a scrub top is considered an extremely serious crime, because in the past these impersonating hospital staff had stolen medicine, injured patients, and even have tried to...um...disappear. This is because many people believe that uniforms imply a uniform type, which is actually a bit of a misunderstanding.



Medical professionals working in different healthcare settings must wear medical uniforms. For example, pharmacy technicians have lab coats on, not scrubs. Not scrubs, emergency room staff also wear lab coats. Therefore, it would be silly for nurses, doctors, emergency room staff, and others to wear generic lab jackets when they visit an "all-in one" medical facility.



Why is medical uniform so important? Apart from all the obvious reasons, such as hospital policy and medical professionals being distinguished from others in similar roles, uniforms allow them to be more distinctive. Let's face facts, everyone in the healthcare industry looks the same. The uniform makes it much easier for healthcare workers to identify themselves amongst the sea of faces in the hospital waiting area. This makes it easy for them receive the help that they need, whether they are looking for triage, first aid or basic patient care.



Medical professionals have always worked long hours without wearing uniforms. They could wear any type of clothing provided by their departments. This made it incredibly difficult for them to differentiate themselves, much less look professional. For example, some people may not realize that they are allergic to certain plants or other ingredients found in certain products and medications. Medical professionals will wear lab coats and uniforms designed specifically for this purpose. Many hospitals and clinics have departments that only focus on healthcare. Uniforms that are professional in appearance are a big part of that department's job.



Medical uniforms are important for many reasons. Scrubs and lab coats worn by healthcare workers help to create a safer environment around patients and they also give those in healthcare a sense of professionalism. These items help healthcare professionals to be distinguished from one another, which is another goal. However, it doesn't matter if the healthcare workers wear scrubs or uniforms; the bottom line is that healthcare workers should have the same quality resources as those working in regular workplaces.
