California-based landscape worker Eric Julian Alvarez is announcing his 4th service trip to Kenya to work with a rural village.

Eric Julian Alvarez is pleased to be announcing his 4th service trip to a remote village in Kenya. Eric Julian Alvarez has been involved in projects with this rural Kenyan community for a number of years with a group of service-minded people. Together, Eric Julian Alvarez and the rest of his team have been involved in a number of fundraising endeavors for various community development projects and have also traveled thrice prior to this 4th trip in order to implement these programs.

The first program that Eric Julian Alvarez implemented with the group of volunteers was a fundraising project that raised enough money to bring a consistently functional irrigation system to the community in Kenya that they have been working with. As a landscaper, Eric Julian Alvarez was particularly invested in this project.

“It took a fair amount of funds and three different trips, but the community we work with now has running water and a reliable irrigation system for growing fresh vegetables. It’s amazing what we have accomplished by working together – not just the volunteers, but the community members in Kenya,” says Eric Julian Alvarez. “We are so excited to be working with the community members – we love when everyone gets a chance to know each other through the work.”

The first three trips revolved around implementing the running water and irrigation system, but this fourth trip represents an entirely new project for Eric Julian Alvarez and his crew of volunteers.

“We are working on something new. This time, it’s animal husbandry,” says Eric Julian Alvarez. “Now that the community has a reliable way to grow produce, we are working on bringing in dairy goats. The goal is a goat for each family.”

According to Eric Julian Alvarez, bringing in goats is a great long-term investment for any rural community. Goats are a great source of milk and protein, says Eric Julian Alvarez. Additionally, many kinds of goats also produce fiber that can be knit or woven.

Eric Julian Alvarez and his volunteer team are greatly looking forward to working with the community on this new project and even more similar programs in the future.
