Author Douglas R. Brown uses inspiration from wearing masks in new dystopian fantasy novel while fighting the pandemic on the front lines with a large urban fire department

Pataskala, Ohio, May 4, 2021 – Epertase Publishing announces the launch of Douglas R. Brown’s latest dystopian fantasy novel, Death of the Grinderfish, where breathing without a mask is deadly. Partially inspired by the pandemic, Death of the Grinderfish attempts to take a unique spin on wearing masks.
In 2013, Douglas R. Brown was coming off the successful release of his fourth published novel when he started Death of the Grinderfish. That’s when the publishing company announced they were closing their doors for financial reasons. Frustrated at seeing his marketing momentum come to a screeching halt and faced with the daunting task of starting over with a new search for a publisher, Douglas set his writing aside to focus on other aspects of his life.
Then came 2020 and the start of the pandemic. While his initial inspiration for needing masks to survive came from wearing air packs as a firefighter in Columbus, Ohio, the current pandemic really brought that idea to life. Living through the lockdown while only leaving the house to work on the frontlines, Douglas revisited his love of writing with a fresh delve into Death of the Grinderfish.
In the kingdom of Altenbyrne, breathing without a mask is deadly. The Robin Hood-esque story about a teenage boy and his twin sister fighting to survive in a harsh dystopian kingdom where lifemasks are controlled by a ruthless king seemed fitting for the times we are living through.
Death of the Grinderfish is available in eBook, paperback, or audiobook wherever books are sold online on May 4, 2021. Check out what has already been called “Fantastic fantasy that sets the pace right from the start” in Death of the Grinderfish. Or visit www.epertasepublishing.com for more.
