Since the beginning of the pandemic, NDIS has been helping people living with disabilities in various ways. The National Disability Insurance Scheme is helping disability service providers as well. Over the last one and half years, the nature and magnitude of help have changed, but the aim has remained the same. Recently, Hon. Linda Reynolds announced that the offered service is expanding, especially for the participants.
The commencement of the initiative
According to this announcement, the service providers will receive additional financial payments. This payment has been designed to help participants attend their vaccination appointments. The initiative commenced back in May 2021 and was for supporting the independent living providers. Now, the initiative has been extended to include more providers to bring more people under the purview of this facility.
Some details about the new system
Due to this announcement, the disability service providers will now get financial assistance to ensure they can attend their vaccination appointments. Since the pandemic, the world has regressed to survival mode, and people are trying to do their best to remain in good health. The invention and availability of vaccines are proving highly conducive towards that goal.
The hurdles participants have to face
Though the vaccine does not cost a small fortune, everyone can't afford it, especially the NDIS participants who live within a strict budget. NDIS pays the expenses of a participant; hence, arranging money for the vaccine may prove challenging for these people. Offering additional financial assistance to the disability service providers in SA, NDIS is ensuring vaccination for everyone. However, along with vaccination, the person has to travel to the designated centre, which will cost more.
The monetary aspect of the matter
Under this new system, the disability service provider can directly claim the amount required for vaccination, and it will include both doses instead of only one. This additional personal support will help keep participants, carers, families and the wider community safe. In addition, according to Minister Reynolds, eligible providers can claim a fixed amount of $150 for supporting an NDIS participant for offsite vaccination.
