Offering muscular looks, better off-road capability and more power than it’s little brother the Fiat Panda 4×4, the all-new Panda Cross looks set to be the perfect option for drivers who want an urban workhorse that’s more than capable of handling itself on rough ground.

Due to arrive at Thames Motor Group’s showrooms in Slough and Tunbridge Wells within a matter of months, the new model has taken the already highly-capable Panda 4×4 to the next level.

One look at the Fiat Panda Cross’ aggressive styling and it’s clear this 4WD means business. Its rugged features include all-new bumpers, front and rear skid-plates, tow hooks, distinctive LED daytime running lights, pronounced fog lights and a sculpted bonnet. Colour-coded mirrors, sit above side moulding inserts and new 15-inch, five-spoke dark alloys.

The redesign continues inside the cabin, showing that while the Panda Cross has been built for performance, this has not come at the expense of comfort and refinement. There’s comfy seating finished off in bespoke natural fabrics and eco leather, and the dashboard has received a makeover too and now boasts a stylish copper-effect finish. Automatic climate control helps keep driver and passengers comfortable, while rear folding seats with a 60/40 split ensure the vehicle is highly practical whatever the load.

Panda Cross owners will have two powertrains to choose from – either Fiat’s 1.3-litre MultiJet petrol engine, offering 80bhp and maximum torque of 190Nm, or a 0.9-litre TwinAir diesel unit, which produces 90bhp and maximum torque of 145Nm. Both of these engines have been given a 5bhp boost in order to maximise the vehicle’s off-road capability. An impressive level of fuel efficiency means drivers can achieve up to 60.1mpg combined, while CO2 emissions are kept as low as 114g/km.

The Panda Cross is a joy to drive in urban environments, thanks to its responsive handling, level of fuel economy, practical interior and head-turning looks. When the going gets tough the Cross really comes into its own though, thanks to its impressive powertrains, ground clearance of 161mm on the diesel model and newly-designed suspension with front independent MacPherson struts and lower wishbones. The presence of a terrain selector dial marks a first for a car in this segment and allows drivers to choose between auto, off-road and hill descent modes. The first is for normal road conditions and transfers 98 per cent of the engine’s torque to the front wheels. Off-road mode puts the Panda Cross into all-wheel drive, can handle speeds of up to 30mph and adds electronic locking differential to increase traction and stability. The third mode offers assistance on steep descents and is specifically designed to cope with situations where grip is variable.

Kevin Khanna, Dealer Principal at Thames Motor Group, said: “The Panda 4×4 has won many fans since its release and we can’t wait for the first all-new Panda Cross models to arrive at our showrooms in Slough and Tunbridge Wells. For anyone who wants a practical, efficient and incredibly stylish urban vehicle that can take on the harshest of terrains too, the Panda Cross is the ideal choice.”
