5G Wi-Fi is short for fifth-generation Wi-Fi technology. Wi-Fi technology was born in 1997 and has now reached its fifth generation. When the first Wi-Fi standard was introduced, the chip's operating frequency was limited to 2.4ghz and its maximum transmission rate was only 2Mbps due to technological and cost constraints.
The following four Wi-Fi versions, including 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n, are getting faster. Now we generally use the standard of 802.11n. The speed of Wi-Fi chips is getting higher and higher, but even 802.11n was running in the 2.4ghz band, the speed still can't meet people's needs.
Although the Wi-Fi chip of mobile phones supports dual-frequency operation (2.4ghz and 5GHz) before, the protocol adopted is still 802.11n standard, but not the latest 802.11ac standard, which is not 5G Wi-Fi in the real sense. It can be simply regarded as using 802.11n Wi-Fi in the 5GHz frequency band.
The real 5G Wi-Fi is 802.11ac, which uses a chip that works at 5GHz and can cover both 5GHz and 2.4ghz bands. In addition to being faster, it also improves the problem of small wireless signal coverage. Although 5GHz has a stronger attenuation than 2.4ghz and is difficult to get through obstacles, the new standard will make it easier to get signals from all corners because of the larger coverage and the fact that the signals will be refractive.
