Rhinoplasty is done to refine or change the shape of the nose. It is a complicated procedure that’s why you should follow the advice of your surgeon to avoid complications.

Rhinoplasty or also called disambiguation, is a plastic surgery procedure for correcting and reconstructing the form, restoring the functions, and aesthetically enhancing the nose, by resolving nasal trauma (blunt, penetrating, blast), congenital defect, respiratory impediment, and a failed primary rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty is done to refine or change the shape of the nose. This is usually performed under general anesthesia. The nose shape, especially the hump or bone and the bulbous tip can be reduced. Nostril width or size can also be improved to create an asymmetrical appearance. Along with this procedure nasal breathing can improve also by fixing the airway.

A new nose and its nasal bones will usually take about six weeks to fully heal. So during this period, you should take extra precaution and ample care to make sure that nothing goes wrong with it. Here are some tips for your after care:

1. No Harsh Activities – a person who undergoes Rhinoplasty should avoid rigorous activities such as going to the gym or exercising for at least two weeks after the procedure. Aside from lifting heavy materials, jogging or aerobic exercises should be avoided, too. You can return to your regular exercise after three weeks. This should be followed to avoid trauma to your nose. However, light walking is encouraged to avoid blood clots.

2. Do Not Blow Your Nose – you should avoid excessive blowing or sniffing. Your nose tissues are extremely sensitive during the first three weeks of surgery and it could lead to some complications and irritations further.

3. Do Not Wet your Nose – avoid taking direct shower that could dampen the inside of your nose. When this happens, your nose might get clogged up. Just take a shower by washing your hair and using a damp cloth to clean your body.

4. Do Not Clean The Inside Of Your Nose With A Q-Tip – your nose might bleed a few days after surgery so ask your surgeon on the proper cleaning.

5. Stop Drinking Alcohol and No Smoking – Alcohol can have adverse effects on your medications for your after care. Same thing goes for smoking. Avoid these for three weeks so that it will not delay the healing process.

6. Do Not Ignore If You Feel Something Is Wrong – Always consult your surgeon for some tips on how to properly care for your wound. To avoid complications, always follow the advice of your surgeon. If you feel that something is wrong, contact your surgeon right away!
