Eccotopia to Partner in South African Research Institute

Eccotopia has set out plans to collaborate on the establishment of a full research institute with Integrated Natural Resources, LLC.

Cape Town, South Africa - The board of directors at South Africa-based sustainable forestation company Eccotopia, Ltd. has given its approval to the commencement of discussions aimed at the establishment of a full research institute in South Africa, which will focus on the development of new Megafolia tree variants.

Eccotopia has an existing joint venture agreement with the patent holders of the Megafolia Paulownia Tree, the Pacific Tree Company, for the development of Megafolia projects in various regions throughout South Africa and the surrounding regions.

The company is considering collaborating with Las Vegas, Nevada-based Integrated Natural Resources, LLC in the establishment of the institute with a view to determining the best use for the end products. The research institute will aim to produce logs with a minimum diameter of 45cm and trees with enhanced phytoremediation properties.

“Integrated Natural Resources has an extensive track record of success with the production of engineered variants and it is beyond any doubt whatsoever that their input and expertise will give the project a far better chance of producing what it is we are all looking for,” said Julian Moses, Chief Executive Office at Eccotopia.

Integrated Natural Resources has suggested that the veneering properties of the Megafolia tree could potentially make it particularly suited to mass plywood production in South Africa while consensus at Eccotopia is that a tree with enhanced bio-remediation characteristics could expedite the time required to return land damaged by mining and drilling activity to original health.

Eccotopia’s board of directors also revealed that they have secured funding to qualify for a bridging loan that will enable the company to satisfy requirements for government subsidies and to conclude a feasibility study with a view to expediting the planting stage.

“We hope to conclude funding application procedure soon,” said Ariel Haskins, Chief Operating Officer at Eccotopia.
