Eccotopia Reaches Agreement With Partner on Test Locations

Eccotopia has agreed to work with new partner Integrated Natural Resources on selected mining sites with water contaminant issues.

Cape Town, South Africa - After a number of weeks of prospecting, the board of directors at South Africa-based sustainable forestation company, Eccotopia, Ltd., has announced its intention to work closely with Las Vegas, Nevada-based Integrated Natural Resources (INR) on the deployment of test plantings of Paulownia trees at selected shallow mining sites where evidence of water contamination has been reported.

Timothy Hall, Agroforester at Integrated Natural Resources, is the exclusive representative for the US developer and the original source of Paulownia trees in the Western US. Mr. Hall is an expert in Paulownia propagation, growing and marketing.

Integrated Natural Resources has extensive experience in the field of phytoremediation having worked extensively in Chile’s mining-intensive regions. Its own Paulownia trees have been proven to be highly effective at purging contaminants from topsoil in areas in and in close proximity to deep mining operations.

“Chile is mined intensively for its rich copper deposits and, as a result, the environmental impact of this activity has had attention focused on it to a far greater extent than it has in South Africa. There is no doubt that this will change in the coming years as South Africa’s economy expands and demands more and more mining activity. INR’s experiences in Chile will benefit us here in South Africa,” said Julian Moses, Chief Executive Office at Eccotopia.

Until recently, South Africa was the world’s largest producer of gold before being eclipsed by China. South Africa’s mines are among the world’s deepest with some shafts bottoming out at 4,000 meters but new techniques are seeing shallower mines sprout up across the country bringing with them water contamination issues that Eccotopia believes represents an environmental disaster waiting to happen.

Ariel Haskins, Chief Operating Officer at Eccotopia, said that the INR expertise would see the Eccotopia effort bolstered significantly in the months to come.
