Singapore to Strengthen Relations with Malaysia

As per the latest news flashing on most media and from the desk of CNA, Singaporean Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan called on Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri on May 18, 2022.

 
The meeting had opened doors for Malaysian businesses, express delivery Malaysia, and tourism, after the bold statement from Singaporean Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, while speaking to the media during his visit to Malaysia. He added, “The last two years have been difficult for people on both sides of the causeway. But one key element which has come through is the fact that both sides, Malaysia and Singapore, have been steady, reliable and dependable partners throughout the crisis,”

When asked about the political situation situations and its impact on Malaysia- Singapore relations, Dr Balakrishnan realized that Malaysia's political situation has been quite complicated since the election in 2018. However, he assured that the decision of the bilateral relationship and level of trust between Singapore and Malaysia has improved a lot during the Covid condition and it had given them a boost to take a step ahead despite the current political circumstances.

He added that - “The fact that we are able to work together, able to support each other - that came through for each other during critical moments and that made all the difference.” During this visit, he also met Mr Ismail Sabri, Mr Hishammuddin, Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah as well as other leaders across the political spectrum. He also met Deputy King Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah. They had also put focused on taking stock of ongoing bilateral cooperation, and agreed that it had continued apace, including the possibility of reviving the terminated Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project.
