The easiest and preferred method is to e-file and submit 2290 Form IRS online. It takes 10 to 15 minutes, and you'll receive a stamped schedule 1 2290 form IRS as proof of payment of the HVUT (Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax ) tax for all your taxable vehicles. Payment to the IRS form 2290 will be processed by credit or debit card. Electronic filing will save personal resources (for example, time and postage) and reduce preparation and processing errors.
If you have a new EIN, we highly recommend going to your local tax office. The IRS form 2290 is currently taking up one month to process EINs and get it in their systems. Until they process your EIN, you cannot get a Form 2290 IRS. If you go in person, the IRS can process your EIN right away and get you a 2290 Form .
If you use a fleet of 25 vehicles or more, you're required to e-file. For smaller operations, the IRS also encourages you to file the HVUT (Heavy vehicle Use Tax) online, although it's not mandatory.
