There is a debate on social media about whether social media apps like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will stop working in India from May 26? Let us know that on February 25, 2021, the IT ministry gave three months time to all social media companies. In these three months, social media companies had to accept the new guidelines. 25 May is its last date. It is now discussed that Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will be closed in India from May 26.
What's in the new rules?
Under the new rules, all social media companies (whose user base is over 50 lakhs) have to appoint Resident Complaint Officer, Chief Compliance Officer and Nodal Liaison Officer. The new rules include complaint resolution, monitoring of objectionable content, compliance reports and removal of objectionable content. According to reports, so far only Koo App has appointed officers.
Till now, social media companies were not legally responsible for the post of a user under section 79 of the IT Act. But now social media companies will be held equally guilty of objectionable content for posting objectionable content if they do not follow the new rules.
