High strength and high toughness
1. Withstand complex stress
During the exploration and exploitation of oil and natural gas, OCTG pipe has to withstand a variety of complex stresses such as tension, compression, bending, and torsion. For example, when drilling, the drill pipe must withstand both the reaction force from the drill bit drilling into the formation and the torque generated by its own rotation. This requires the pipe to have high strength and be able to withstand huge external forces without deformation or fracture.
2. Resist impact and vibration
Mechanical vibration and impact of the drill bit are frequent in mining operations. The pipe need to have high toughness to absorb and consume impact energy, prevent brittle fracture, and ensure good performance under harsh working conditions.
Excellent corrosion resistance
1. Chemical corrosion resistance
Oil and gas field environments often contain corrosive media such as H₂S, CO₂, and Cl⁻. OCTG pipe, such as oil pipes and casings made of duplex stainless steel and high-alloy stainless steel, can effectively resist the erosion of these media and extend the service life of the pipes through the reasonable ratio of alloy elements to form a dense passivation film.
2. Electrochemical corrosion resistance
In different formation environments, OCTG pipe will corrode due to electrochemical action. Pipes are usually improved by adding corrosion-resistant alloy elements and surface treatment to improve their electrochemical corrosion resistance and prevent local corrosion.
High-precision dimensions and good concentricity
1. Ensure connection sealing
The connection requirements of each part of OCTG pipe are very strict, such as the threaded connection of oil pipes and casings. High-precision dimensions can ensure the close fit between the threads, form a good seal, and prevent oil and gas leakage. Accurate pipe diameter size control can enable the pipe to be smoothly lowered and installed underground, avoiding construction difficulties caused by size deviation.
2. Ensure the stability of downhole operations
Good concentricity is particularly important for pipes such as drill pipes, which can ensure that the drill pipe is evenly stressed during rotary drilling, reduce wear and fatigue damage caused by eccentricity, and improve drilling efficiency and safety.
Good wear resistance
1. Deal with friction and wear
During the drilling process, friction will occur between the drill pipe and the well wall, the casing and the solid particles in the drilling fluid, etc., which requires the pipe to have good wear resistance to reduce wear and extend service life. By optimizing the surface hardness and organizational structure of the pipe, its wear resistance is improved to ensure that it can still maintain good performance under long-term friction.
2. Resist erosion and wear
Solid particles carried by high-speed flowing drilling fluids, oil and gas and other fluids will cause erosion and wear on the inner wall of the pipe, especially in elbows, reducers and other parts. OCTG pipe uses special wear-resistant materials or surface coating technology to improve the erosion and wear resistance of the pipe and ensure that the pipe can operate reliably in a complex fluid environment.
Machinability and weldability
1. Meet diverse needs
OCTG pipe needs to be processed according to different well depths, geological conditions and operating requirements. Good machinability allows the pipe to be processed into various sizes and shapes, such as bending, expanding and reducing diameters, to meet the needs of different downhole operations.
2. Convenient for on-site construction
At the oil and gas mining site, pipe connections often require welding. Pipes with good weldability can ensure the quality of the welded joints, giving them strength and performance comparable to the pipe body, ensuring the reliability of the entire pipeline system.
