The Difference Between Cold Stamping & Hot Rolling of Mild Steel Tubes

Mild steel tubes are one of the important products in the steel industry. The production process involves two processes, cold stamping and hot rolling. There are obvious differences between these two processes in the production process.

First, cold stamping and hot rolling are two different processes, of which cold stamping is mainly carried out at room temperature, while hot rolling is carried out at high temperature.

Secondly, the cold stamping process is to stamp the mild steel tube at room temperature to obtain parts of the required shape and size. This process can produce plates or parts of various shapes and specifications, such as round, square, rectangular, oval, etc. The cold stamping process has the advantages of high production efficiency, low cost, and good surface quality, so it has been widely used in the processing of mild steel tubes.
In contrast, the hot rolling process is to roll the mild steel tube at high temperature to obtain the pipe of the required shape and size. This process can produce plates or pipes of various specifications, such as round pipes, square pipes, special-shaped pipes, etc. The hot rolling process has the advantages of high production efficiency, low cost, and high material utilization, so it has been widely used in the production of mild steel tubes.

In addition, cold stamping and hot rolling also differ in product performance. Since the cold stamping process is based on hot-rolled steel plates and is carried out at room temperature, its products have good dimensional accuracy and surface quality, and will not affect the material properties. The hot rolling process is carried out at high temperatures, so its products have good plasticity and toughness, but the surface quality is relatively poor, and due to the influence of high temperature, it may have a certain impact on the material properties.

In summary, the cold stamping and hot rolling processes of mild steel tubes have obvious differences in production process and product performance. In the production process, the appropriate process should be selected according to specific needs and product requirements. At the same time, for products produced by different processes, they should also be used reasonably according to their characteristics and application fields.
