Veterans need special care during the latter stages of their life because of their unique situation. The Hospice of the Calumet Area works with the Hospice-Veteran Partnership to care for elderly veterans in the golden years of their lives.

[02/15/2018, Munster] – Service in the Armed Forces carries a long and noble tradition of honor and sacrifice. For the few men and women brave enough to enlist, special care is necessary, especially in their twilight years.

The Hospice of the Calumet Area is one of the institutions that give this particular stage of the veterans’ life special attention. It is part of the Hospice-Veteran Partnership (HVP) of the We Honor Veterans Foundation to care for retired veterans.

Specialized Veteran Senior Care

Caring for an elderly veteran carries with it certain unique considerations. In their senior years, elderly veterans are prone to flashbacks and dementia. Factors like what branch they served in, the rank they attained, and the number of tours they had may affect a senior veteran’s well being.

The Hospice of the Calumet Area specializes in veteran care. It works with area hospices and gives priority to the comfort of the veterans during the later years. The hospice has a staff of highly trained physicians, nurses, and caretakers who ensure only the best care possible.

The Hospice-Veteran Partnership

The HVP is a long-standing program of the We Honor Veterans Foundation, a non-profit organization. The foundation works with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to champion the rights of those who have proudly served the US Armed Forces.

The Hospice of the Calumet Area serves on the Indiana HVP committee to coordinate the care of VA patients with various hospices in the area. The hospice also works closely with Indiana’s Adam Benjamin, Jr. VA Outpatient Clinic and Chicago-area Veteran’s hospitals.
