With a recently available trip to the Plastics show in Orlando Florida, I spoke with many of the granulator manufacturers. While they encourage their customers to get OEM blades from them, it's more of an afterthought when compared to a business model.

The truth is that a lot of OEM's don't manufacture their own blades. Blade sizes and configuration tend to be more one factor of machine design and utility. Besides, if you'll need a new car battery, you will most likely to go a trustworthy battery manufacturer than to go back to the car brand from which it comes.

How about the question of how to maintain the blades. In the end, you'll need to think about the price of the blades and ways to get the most out of them. Granulator blades are believed Industrial Knives. Industrial Knives cover a wide selection of industries that use specialized knives, or blades, inside their respective process. As such, you will need to find a specialist in the Industrial Knife business with a good reputation of quality and integrity.

Another important consideration is material. A top quality tool steel provides you with the longevity for the particular process. The absolute most standard material used is D2. D2 is also called tool steel and is a high-carbon, high-chromium steel. D2 may be hardened to 64rc giving it the hardness for endurance and impact resistance. It can also be worth mentioning that there are certainly a very limited quantity of business'available that have the appropriate equipment to grind and or sharpen this material. So preferably you intend to choose someone who will also maintain the blades to factory specs.

Material and hardness are key factors in wear ability. You will find other treatments that lend themselves to situations where abrasion resistance is needed. Cryogenics and carbide treatments are some examples.

While it does work that there are a myriad of suppliers for top quality granulator blades, it's key that you've a vendor/supplier that's your back (so to speak). Do you have a supplier that could maintain the blades to factory specification? Do you have a supplier with manufacturing capabilities that understands the appropriate tool steels and hardness characteristics? Understanding that the OEM does not make the initial blades which are utilized in the newest machine, who would they outsource to? More frequently than not it comes down seriously to price, keeping the price of the machine down.
