Please keep in mind that rifle action strength varies with manufacture date and design. Winchester 1873 (including most replicas), Whitney-Kennedy, Colt-Burgess, Marlin 1888, Colt Lightning, Remington Model 2 Rolling-Block, Ballard No. 2 and Stevens Model 44 single Shot are examples of “weaker” actions.
RELOADING PREPARATION:
Brass case mouths MAY not be perfectly round from the manufacturing process, this can be corrected by running brass through the size die (always recommended) prior to loading. Residue from the annealing process may leave a stain on the case neck that can be removed by tumbling. Annealing involves rapid heating then cooling to impart the shell cases with the proper hardness to securely hold bullets in place and provides flexibility to expand and contract through multiple firings handloaders expect.
45 Schofield brass (Starline, QTY 100)
100 factory new Starline unprimed 45 S&W Schofield brass cartridge cases.
UNIT COST .258 CENTS EACH.
HISTORY: 45 Smith&Wesson Schofield is similar to the 45 Colt. Differences include head diameter approximately .010″ larger, case length is 1.090″ to 1.100″ compared to 1.273″ to 1.283″ in the .45 Colt. Substantially less internal capacity for shooting light loads in most 45 Colt guns with no modifications. You may need to tune extractor on some lever action rifles, or decrease diameter of the ratchet on the cylinder by .010 to accommodate the larger head diameter in Ruger Vaquero and Colts. Also increases magazine capacity in rifles.
