Dr. Thomas V Taylor entered a career in medicine because he possessed an innate desire to help people in any way that he could. Upon completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Edinburgh, he went on to study at Manchester Medical School, where he would build the foundation of knowledge that would prove to be so vital during the course of his career.

Upon completing his education, he became an intern, focusing on medicine and urology. In an effort to improve further in his chosen field, Dr Thomas V Taylor followed this up by spending a year training at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, this time focusing on the subjects of urology and general surgery.

He also served a number of residencies in facilities such as the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital, the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and Hammersmith Hospital in London. This allowed him to develop a diverse surgical skillset, while also placing him in a prime position to help others to develop their skills in an effort to provide the highest standards of care to patients.

With this experience under his belt, Dr. Taylor began to focus his efforts on teaching, spending a year teaching Anatomy at the University of Manchester. He was also made the Senior Lecturer in Surgery at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary later on his career, which brought him to the attention of Dr. Michael Debakey.

Dr. Debakey extended an invitation that saw Dr. Taylor move to Houston, Texas in 1993. He became a Professor of Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine, spending eight years in the role before becoming the institution’s Chief of Academic Surgery and Chief of Postgraduate Medical Education. During this period, he still found time to focus on his own medical career and was able to publish eight books and 250 scientific papers with the aim of helping his peers.

Now retired, Dr. Thomas V Taylor often reflects on his surgical career and believes that the path he took not only ensured his patients received a superb level of care, but also that future doctors were able to learn from his experiences as well.
