Strengthening Mental Health with the Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Health

While the world struggles with a very different physical health issue, mental health shouldn’t be left behind.

[04/03/2020, WESTPORT] – Apart from the need for people to strengthen their immune systems and keep themselves safe during this pandemic, taking care of their mental health is also important. Excellent mental health, according to many studies, brings several benefits, including enhanced mood, clear thinking, lower risk of depression, and better relationships.

Although there are natural ways to boost mental health, which people can do on their own, professional assistance may be necessary in certain cases. The Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Health (CCBH) helps Connecticut residents recover from emotional, mental, or behavioral disorders through their resources and expertise.

Treating a Wide Range of Conditions

The Center’s dedicated team of psychometrists helps people of all ages with the following disorders:

• Anxiety
• Trauma
• Substance abuse
• Suicidality and self-harm
• Depressive disorders
• Eating disorders
• Family and marital conflict

A patient undergoes a comprehensive evaluation of their condition, needs, and personality. The clinicians use this information to create a comprehensive treatment plan.

Therapy Services

CCBH may recommend the following therapy plans to improve the client’s mental, emotional, and behavioral health:

• Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) aims to eliminate a patient’s unrealistic patterns of thinking that may be supported by counterproductive behavior. The clinician works with the patient to identify, evaluate, and eventually change distortive beliefs and thoughts.

• Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) includes four modes of treatment, in which the clinician helps the patient cope healthily with stress, manage emotions, and improve relationships. The patient participates in treatments that involve homework assignments, role-playing, and adaptation of learned behavioral skills to personal life challenges.

CCBH may also recommend group skills training, naturopathic medicine, guided meditation sessions, and yoga therapy for the patient.
