Dr. Max Mongelli on the Importance of Child Weight at the Time of Birth

Born in Italy, Dr. Max Mongelli is a well-known name in the world of obstetrics. His studies on fetal growth and ultrasound have been published in the doctoral thesis and a number of papers.

Australia, September 21, 2016: Obstetrics is a brand of medical science which deals with childbirth, pregnancy and postpartum period. Obstetricians complete special training and education in labor, pregnancy, and puerperium management. Dr. Max Mongelli is a well-known obstetrician and has worked emphasis on the weight of the child at the time of birth and the variables that influence the neonatal size.

“Birth weight is an excellent predictor of the health status of the population. There are a number of physiological and pathological factors, like a hypertensive disease, chronic mental illness, maternal addictions, duration of pregnancy, parental size, race, sex, etc. that influence the weight of a child at the time of birth. However, it is the physiological factors that are more important. But the distinction between the physiological and pathological factors is still arbitrary to an extent and requires further research.” suggests a spokesperson from Nepean Hospital in Sydney where Max Mongelli is now a full-time obstetrician.

Dr. Max Mongelli has also co-authored a book titled as “The Low Birth Weight Baby” with professor Tambyraja which focuses on fetal growth. Moreover, he has also written more than 50 papers in the medical journals and many of these papers have been presented at conferences, like International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The spokesperson continues,” While birth weight is not, in fact, the most accurate indicator of the growth kinetics in individuals, it is still a very reliable measurement for predicting the growth rate and nutritional status. While Max Mongelli has significantly contributed to the field of obstetrics, he still believes that there is a vast gray area that needs to be explored for better prediction of the neonatal outcome.”

Dr. Max M now lives in New South Wales, Australia, with his family and is a fellow at Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He is also a full-time obstetrician specialist at Nepean Hospital in Sydney. Apart from early fetal growth, he has recently gained interest in early pregnancy problems, like ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage. And just like fetal growth and child weight at birth, we hope his studies will abundantly contribute to these fields as well.
