In the spring of 2014, Dr. Joshua Safeek and his associates at Caricom Bottling Company Inc. launched the first ever six-flavor vodka line from the country of Guyana. Named the West Indies Vodka Cooler, the venture was years in the making and took multiple millions of dollars to see to fruition.

Each of the six flavors represents part of the Guyanese land and local produce, something that Caricom is proud of. With a tag-line that reads “call yah shots” the goal of the West Indies Vodka Cooler is that each is its own cocktail in a small bottle.

The six West Indies Vodka Cooler flavors are pina colada, cosmopolitan, sea breeze, volcano lava, kamikaze, and blue lagoon. These beverages were added to the already successful roll-out in prior years of the West Indies Spring Water label as well as a carbonated and non-carbonated beverage brand.

One of the biggest reasons that Caricom and Dr. Joshua Safeek pushed so hard for this distribution is that the products are all made locally in Guyana. This means that a distillery, plant, and packaging facility needed to be built in the country. The erection of those offices and factories created hundreds of jobs for Guyana residents.

The initial plans for the West Indies Vodka Cooler launch was to focus solely on South American and Caribbean countries for export or sale. Over the last two years, the product has found its way all the way across the globe.

Guyanese political officials have also been pleased with the response and results of the Caricom venture, noting that having a beverage processing and development facility in the country has boosted the Guyanese economy more than any other venture in recent years.

Overall the reception of the vodka coolers was very good, from both beverage purveyors and the Guyanese public. The drinks are touted for having a slow burn effect, meaning that the alcohol content is not immediately noticeable to the drinker. Dr. Joshua Safeek's West Indies Vodka Coolers are reasonably and competitively priced, which allows locals to purchase the beverages while still remaining in good standing with the competition.
