Dr Gerald Sacks Considers Education an Important Factor in Management of OIC

This Press Release is written to inform the readers that Dr Gerald Sacks considers education an important factor in management of OIC.

 
Dr Gerald Sacks shares that the practitioners as well as the patients need to communicate clearly when it comes to addressing OIC. He feels that the practitioners are so busy addressing diabetes, hypertension, chronic pain, and other issues associated with opioid that they just overlook the treatment of opioid-induced constipation.

Being a Board certified anesthesiologist in Santa Monica, Dr Sacks is affiliated with Providence Saint John’s Health Center. He received his medical degree from University of Massachusetts Medical School and has been in practice for 32 years. Besides, he is specialized in pain management, hospice and palliative medicine, and perioperative medicine.

Dr Gerald Sacks completed a fellowship in pain management at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. His research interests include neuropathic pain, psychosocial issues as they related to pain perception, and musculoskeletal, mechanical aspects of pain perception.

Explaining the unmet needs in the management of Opioid Induced Constipation, he considers education an important factor. According to him, more educational awareness of OIC would be beneficial for treating the patients.

Dr Gerald Sacks feels that many primary care practitioners have now started recommending patients to utilize lifestyle changes in an attempt to treat OIC. These changes include good hydration, good levels of physical activity, eating fruits and vegetables, and making sure that the patients are utilizing the over-the-counter medications when needed.
