Dasen Brajkovic has served as the Medical Director of Psychiatric Services at Staten Island University Hospital since June of 2012 where he currently manages a team of 60 employees.

Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) was founded in 1861 and now enjoys multiple clinical and academic accreditations and affiliations within the North Shore Health System. As a proud contributor to the hospital’s current level of success, Dasen Brajkovic has served as the Medical Director of Psychiatric services for the past four years. His expertise and experience teaching and managing teams of doctors, fellow psychiatrists, residents, and students has brought a great asset to the hospital and its staff, and most importantly its patients.

The hospital offers a wide selection of programs to promote health and awareness throughout the community. As a physician heavily involved in mental health, particularly in the elderly, promoting awareness and openness in regard to mental health related issues has been an important aspect of Dr. Dasen Brajkovic work. Managing his diverse staff has been a rewarding and enriching challenge for him as he has made SIUH his home.

Beginning his time at SIUH as an Attending Psychiatrist in 2009, Brajkovic spent much of his time working as an inpatient psychiatrist, performing electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and working as an on-call consultation-liaison to other physicians. After three years in this position, he was rewarded for his excellence and promoted to the position he now holds as Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry. His work as an attending also allowed him to further his experience teaching and supervising as he worked with residents and medical students and assistants. This position was a welcome step in his career and further prepared him for his time in management as Director.

After seven years working at SIUH, four of which serving as director, he has become an integral part of patient care and well-being. Understanding the importance of mental health issues and working to improve the quality of life in the patients that enter SIUH in search of answers is a priority for the Director and his team. This much-needed concern for mental health has become increasingly important as advances in medicine have formulated treatments to lessen, alleviate, or slow symptoms of numerous mental health issues. With his leadership, SIUH should continue to impress the community for years to come and help those in need.
