REMBERT, SC (MAY 21, 2013) – Modern Turf, Inc., the preeminent, South Carolina-based turfgrass production company, has been chosen to install new greens at the legendary Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Quail Hollow Club, a 7,114-yard, par-72 course, was originally designed by famed golf course architect George Cobb in 1961 to capture the beauty as well as challenging terrain of the Piedmont region. In the intervening years, the course has undergone a series of improvements, including modifications to several holes by Arnold Palmer in 1986, and a redesign by Tom Fazio in 1997.

Since 2003, the club has hosted the Wells Fargo Championship, a stop on the PGA tour, and quickly earned the favorable opinion of elite golfers such as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. In October 2010, it was announced that Quail Hollow would host the 2017 PGA Championship, which led to the club’s decision to switch to bermudagrass putting greens.

Hank Kerfoot, President of Modern Turf, Inc., said, “We are thrilled to be part of the Quail Hollow Club’s greens replacement project. When the project was announced, there was speculation as to which of the three main varieties of bermudagrass would be selected. As a grass that is very hardy, enough to withstand heat, humidity, and wear and tear, MiniVerde Ultradwarf was clearly the superior choice for Quail Hollow’s needs.”

The MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass produces deep roots and is characterized by fine leaf blades, short internodes and high shoot density. MiniVerde has been the top-rated Bermudagrass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) trials for the past several years.

The MiniVerde is also the number one turf in the sport of golf today, featured at several premier PGA tour stops, including Red Stone, host of the Shell Houston Open; TPC Louisiana, host of the Zuirch Classic; TPC Sawgrass, host of the Players; and East Lake Golf Club, host of the FedEx Cup Finale and the Tour Championship by Coca-Cola. Modern Turf is the exclusive licensed producer and installer of MiniVerde in North Carolina, South Caronia, Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois.

Current plans are for the MiniVerde greens to be installed by Modern Turf crews in mid-June. The process of planting the live bits of grass will take about two days, and normally it takes about 8 weeks to be ready for play on newly built greens.
