COVID-19 is contagious and is mostly spread from one person to the other through respiratory droplets that go into the air when you cough and sneeze, this puts those closest to you at risk of contracting COVID 19.
Normalizing the use of masks when out in crowded or public spaces acts as an easy shield and helps minimize droplet spraying that can pass through the mouth and nose.

Various studies have been conducted on the transmission of COVID 19 and there are two categories of persons: -
1. Asymptomatic - Persons who are infected but never develop any COVID 19 symptoms
2. Pre-symptomatic – Persons who are infected but are yet to develop COVID 19 symptoms but later develop symptoms.

Both asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic persons will continue to transmit the virus to others and the primary function of wearing a mask is that if one is infectious and shows no signs of COVID they cannot infect those around them.

Maintaining social distancing of at least 1.5 -meters between yourself and others reduces the risk of infection when they cough, sneeze or speak. Maintaining an even greater distance between yourself and others when indoors is recommended, this is because of crowded rooms and poorly ventilated spaces that do not allow free circulating of air.

Docsun on who needs to wear a mask?
• Persons above two years of age should wear a mask in public.
• Persons who think that they may have contracted COVID-19 should wear a mask both in public and at home

Washing of hands should be done often with soap and running water or one can carry sanitizers, this ensures that your hands are clean and free from contamination of surfaces and germs in the surrounding.

Docsun on benefits of Hand Sanitizers?

In Kenya, the government has put strict measures that ensure all public i.e. schools, hospitals, bus stations etc. and private i.e. businesses and companies in general provide soap and water at their entrance points.
Soap and water are not always accessible, especially while on the move and the use of hand sanitizers will help in reducing the transmission of germs.

1. Cleanliness
One of the key advantages of a hand sanitizer is that it sanitizes the Hand and kills germs when used correctly. CDC recommends that one should sanitize before eating, after collecting garbage, returning home from outside activities and from being around animals.

2. Portability
Sanitizers are readily available in the market at a cost-friendly price and it’s easy to carry a sanitizer with your personal effects.
