San Jose, December 2024 — For over four decades, Christmas in the Park has been a cherished tradition in San Jose, bringing neighbors, families, and visitors together to celebrate the holiday season. This year, the beloved festival returns to Plaza de Cesar Chavez, lighting up downtown with festive displays, joyous music, and the warmth of a community united in tradition.
Since its humble beginnings as a small Christmas tree display in the 1950s, Christmas in the Park has grown into one of the most iconic events in the Bay Area. Each year, local schools, organizations, and small businesses contribute to the festival’s charm by designing creative displays and ornaments for the dozens of decorated trees lining the park. For many locals, it’s more than just a festive outing; it’s a chance to reconnect with loved ones, support local businesses, and relive memories passed down through generations.
“This isn’t just an event—it’s part of who we are as a community,” says longtime volunteer and San Jose resident Linda Carter. “Every tree has a story, every light has a purpose.”
