PORTLAND, Maine—JuryDat, LLC (“JuryDat”), a leading provider of jury selection and trial advisory software and services, today announced a partnership with the Committee for Public Counsel Services (“CPCS”), the public defender agency for Massachusetts. This collaboration will make JuryDat’s software and services available to indigent defendants represented by CPCS, ensuring fairer trials and more equitable access to justice.

This partnership addresses a critical need for expert jury advisory services in indigent defense in the Commonwealth. Effective jury selection is crucial for a fair trial, but defendants relying on public defenders often lack the resources to access specialized expertise in this area. JuryDat’s services will level the playing field, providing CPCS attorneys with the tools and strategies necessary to select the most impartial and representative juries possible.

“We are deeply committed to ensuring equal access to justice for all,” said Deb Strout, Founder & CEO of JuryDat. “Everyone deserves a fair trial regardless of financial circumstances. Our partnership with CPCS allows us to put our expertise to work where it is most needed, ensuring indigent defendants an equal opportunity to legal services. We are honored to contribute to this important work.”

Strout added, “Jury selection is a nuanced and complex process. By providing CPCS attorneys with advanced strategies and data-driven insights, we aim to empower them to advocate for their clients effectively and secure the best possible outcomes. We are not just providing trial advisory services but investing in a fairer legal system.”

As a valued trial team member, JuryDat has helped secure over $1 billion in jury awards and countless not guilty and acquittal verdicts. JuryDat has advised and provided services on high-profile and high-stakes cases, including US v. Lazzaro and Passamaquoddy Wild Blueberry Company v. Cherryfield Foods.

The services provided by JuryDat will include:

Voir Dire Development: Assisting CPCS attorneys in crafting effective questions to identify potential juror biases.

Jury Selection Strategy: Develop data-driven strategies for selecting favorable jurors and identifying those who may be predisposed against the defendant.

Trial Advisory: Expert advice on trial strategy, including witness preparation and courtroom presentations.

Communications Strategy: Assist in strategic message development, media relations, social media monitoring, and issue management.

“A skilled attorney knows that the trial is won or lost not in the judge’s charge, but in the jury box. The careful selection of each juror, understanding their biases and perspectives, is the surest way to shape the verdict long before the first witness is sworn,” said Judge Mary Elizabeth Bullock (Ret.), a former federal judge and internationally published author. “JuryDat’s services will surely level the playing field for indigent defendants in Massachusetts,” she concluded.
