The media or the application /uses of the tubing material is one of the major factors to consider while deciding on the steel tubing material to use. Thus proper selection and installation of the tubing media determines the longevity of the installation.

Industrial applications requiring very high pressure during operation require very strong material and the steel serves best. What is even better is the fact that the wall of the tubing needs not be thick to achieve the desired resistance. The steel material is also able to resist chemical action without significantly reducing the durability of the system.

Stainless steel and carbon steel tubing are generally the best suited for high temperatures. In extremely high temperatures special alloy materials are used.

The main difference between steel pipes and steel tubing lies in their construction and dimension specifications. While at times these terms may be applied interchangeably there are usually some technical differences. Pipes often have uniform standard of reference globally while those of the tubing may vary. It is also important to note that pipes are denoted by their inside diameter and the tubes being referred by their outside diameter. The gauge or the thickness of construction is varied during construction of tubes, thus tubes may have a higher tolerance for pressure as compared to conventional pipes.

They are used when joining of fabricated tubes is not allowed. They are made either using seamless, welded and cold drawn fabrication systems. The manufacturing system is largely dependent on the particular uses of the final product.

Decorative tubes are usually not suitable for other uses such as transmission of fluids and gases. They are used for a variety of purposes such as guard rails, stair case barriers, door handles, mirror brackets arms, ladders, washroom grab bars, swimming pool rails, automotive step bars and even medical equipments.

These tubes offer uniform tolerance, better/improved workability and ability to handle more pressure when compared to those produced through hot rolling processes. They also have lower machining allowances as compared to hot rolled seamless tubes.

They are used for heating and re heating of fluids, cooling, and chemical processing, processing of hydrocarbons and even in oil refining.

They are manufactured using special precision and cold bending machines. During the bending process it is always important to ensure the three dimensions are maintained and an accurate “u bend” is achieved. They are very useful in heat exchanger systems, condensers and even boiler systems.
