Calgary, Canada: Global News reports that among the top sports Canadians participate in that lead to injury include cycling, all-terrain vehicle riding, skiing and snowboarding, and children’s playground play. According to 2016-17 data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information, 17,655 Canadians were hospitalized due to sports-related injuries.

This is not surprising, considering a sizeable portion of total injuries sustained by Canadians is associated with sports. Insights from the Canadian Community Health Survey conducted in 2017 indicate that two out of three (66 percent) of injuries among adolescents were related to sports. Sports and work were linked to nearly half (47 percent) of injuries among working-age adults (20 to 64).

Divergent Healthcare is a Calgary-based clinic that provides treatment for musculoskeletal health problems and conditions. The clinic specializes in providing specially designed and customized treatment plans for a variety of sports-related injuries owing to their multidisciplinary and evidence-based approach to treatment.

At an event celebrating the clinic’s growth, a senior representative stated, “It is becoming increasingly apparent in the field of musculoskeletal medical care that a multidisciplinary approach is vital for proper and effective treatment. Athletes make up a sizeable chunk of the patients at Divergent Health, and the sheer range of injuries caused by play and falls cannot be effectively treated with a blanket prescription. Members of our extensive team of healthcare professionals who have specializations in various disciplines, work together to create customized treatment plans from patient-to-patient.”

The in-house team of medical professionals at Divergent Healthcare includes general physicians, physical therapists, physiotherapists, massage therapists, chiropractors, kinesiologists, nutritionists, nurses, and technicians.

The representative further stated,
“The evidence is there. A significant number of studies have put forward data that proves the efficacy of alternative treatments, such as shock wave therapy, kinesiology, low-level laser therapy, regenerative injection therapy, and prolotherapy for chronic conditions and sports-related injuries. The number of people opting for these treatments to relieve pain, improve mobility, and overall functionality, is on an upward trend.”
Some of the major sports-related injuries that are treated at Divergent include plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, bursitis, sprains and strains, whiplash injuries, tennis elbow, back pain, neck pain, and muscle ache.
