HOW TO DETERMINED IF YOU ARE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH A NARCISSIST
There is a huge population of people who’s personality is very narcissistic, however, to determine if your partner is a really a narcissist, the following traits should apply:
1. Their life and well-being is more important to them then yours
2. They tend to exaggerate on what is important in their life
3. Their intake on success, beauty, power, romance, relationships, family, intelligence is more like a fantasy, then reality
4. They believe that they are above all others
5. They need and demand to be validated and praised for everything they do.
6. They constantly need attention
7.They feel they are entitled to everything, or make up reasons why they should be entitled to whatever hand that wasn’t dealt to them
8.They tend to take advantage of others – this could be in work, family, romantic relationship, etc.
9. They lack empathy of others – especially in relationships
10. They will never validate your feelings or concerns that you may feel about them in a relationship – they will more likely deflect those concerns back on you so that they don’t have to admit or justify their wrong doings
11. They can’t stay in a long term relationship, and tend to have multiple relationships throughout their lives
12. They will never validate or truly see the worth that you bring to the relationship. Everything tends to be always your fault, never themselves.
13. They will run or change the subject on any topic that is targeting or bringing light to their faults and/or downfalls.
The questions you should ask yourself is can you have a successful long-term relationship with a narcissist?
The answer is it’s up to you. If you are willingly to accept the above and more, then the answer is yes. But like most people in a relationship, they need to feel valued, loved, a partner, understood, safe, have a voice, etc. You cannot have all these things with a narcissist. The reality is if you date or is dating a narcissist, that relationship will be hard to achieve a long term relationship. Even IF you succeed in having a long term relationship, that relationship will become very unhealthy for you in the long run.
