The artificial CLA and Linoleic Acid

You can find artificial CLA in supplements that are being sold as weight loss alternatives. However, keep in mind the chemically-made fatty acid is far riskier than what it can benefit your body.

Fatigue

A CLA treatment will usually make you feel tired and sleepy. Increased fatigue will affect your employment, relations, and studies as it makes it hard to remain active during daily activities. Fatigue may also cause sleep deprivation as it messes with the normal sleep schedule.

Diarrhea

Artificial doses of the fatty acid may cause intentional irritation and, thus, can cause urgent and frequent bowel movements producing loose stools. Diarrhea episodes often come with SMO cha ch pains, bloating, or cramping.
If diarrhea persists, you may feel dehydration and exhaustion. Further symptoms may be headaches, dizziness, dry skin, and increased thirst.

Stomachaches

CLA treatments may also cause stomach discomfort. The pain can lead to nausea and temporary loss of appetite. If you see signs of nausea, contact your doctor so you can avoid additional effects on your digestive system.

The risk of CLA

The main risk of the artificial fatty acid is that it can create insulin resistance on your body. Insulin resistance will make your body increase its fat absorption, which can lead to metabolic syndrome or diabetes. CLA supplements are especially troublesome for people with a history of diabetes or heart diseases.

There are serious concerns about how the use of CLA by overweight patients has a tendency of creating diabetes. However, the evidence is still not very convincing, and some studies show no changes in humans’ insulin sensitivity.
A more recognized study showed CLA supplements increase biliary cholesterol concentration in 32 percent, which increases chances of gallstone formation.
CLA also poses a threat to the heart: the supplements may negatively affect your blood vessel, which causes lower blood flow and higher risks of heart disease.

Another great risk is that it lowers the amount of HDL in your body, and HDL is actually the “good” cholesterol. It means your body will amass unhealthy fat tissue instead of healthy fat, so your body will lose muscle tissue and mass and replace it with fat and soft muscles.

For said reasons, doctors don’t recommend CLA supplements on children, pregnant women, or breastfeeding women.
