Undergoing IELTS has become a common feature for the aspirants who want to study abroad. They should be equipped with knowledge about the IELTS score calculator also.

IELTS Band Score Calculator
The aspirants are given a score of 1-9 for the average of the four components in listening, reading, writing, and speaking tests. The score is the average of these that helps in the determination of the IELTS score. The score can be a whole number like 6.0, 7.0, etc. or can be half like 6.5, 7.5, etc.

Band score calculation in IELTS

An example of a score calculation is mentioned below:

Listening = 6.5

Reading = 6.5

Writing = 5.0

Speaking = 7.0

Overall score = 6.25

The overall score is the result of the 4 modules and the average is rounded off to the nearest whole or half band. if the average score ends in .25, then the overall band score is rounded up to the next Half Band and if the average of the components ends in .75, then the overall band score is rounded up to next whole band. The calculation is based on the new system which was introduced in the year 2007.

IELTS listening test band score is the same for academic and general training. The time allotted for the test is 40 minutes.

Writing band score is based on the assessment of the four criteria like:
Task Achievement (for Task 1), Task Response (for Task 2)
Lexical Resource
Coherence and Cohesion
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
The criteria are weighted equally and the score is the average.

Speaking band score is also based on the following four factors:
Fluency and Coherence
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Lexical Resource
Pronunciation
The criteria are weighted equally and the score is the average.

How to calculate the IELTS score for immigration Canada?

The score of IELTS is not enough to get an entry in the country. They have their own system which is called the CLB. It is a ranking system. This rank decreases from 10 to 4 with the changes reflected in reading, listening, writing, and speaking proficiency of the aspirant.

Reading goes down from 8 to 3.5
Listening shows a downward trend from 8.5 to 4.5
Writing decreases from 7.5 to 4
Speaking shows a downward trend from 7.5 to 4
The CLB band level is 7 for all criteria
The IELTS score is converted to a CLB system when immigration to Canada is concerned.
