Car headlight bulbs come in a wide variety. Headlights enable a driver to see when driving at night or during low visibility. The head lamps are rise to the front corners of a motor vehicle and light up the road way in face of the car. There are just as many lights to pick from as there are vehicles.

Usually, glowing bulbs with a tungsten filament were use as head lamps. In these lamps, an electric current would heat up the filament to make it shine.
The halogen gas returns the evaporated tungsten back to the filament to extend the life. They don't last indefinitely, finally the filament breaks when spots on the thread get too slim.

A head lamp that does not use a filament is a high-intensity discharge. This bulb creates and electrical charge between two electrodes. This arc of electrical current happens within a xenon gas capsule.
When other vehicles are on the road, it is considered rude to use high beams. High beams shine straight ahead causing a severe glare. It's also not safe to drive with the high beams on in fog, rain, or snow due to the reflection of the light off of the water. Low beams are used a majority of the time. It's even become a safety thing to drive with them on even in the daylight.

There are as many car headlight bulbs as there are styles of vehicles on the road. Each comes in a different size and color, and they all last different lengths of time before needing replaced.
