The Harley Street, London, UK- Up till now, many of the doctors have undergone the process of doctors appraisal and revalidation. But there are large number of doctors in UK who still have to undergo their appraisal and revalidation. Most of the doctors feel difficulty in reflecting on their CPD and it is the most crucial step of doctors appraisal. Through these useful tips it will become easy for the doctors to have a meaningful reflection.

The learning of doctors takes place often at the workplace for instance GPs are always undergoing the process of problem solving which may be in the form of lab test results, investigations like CT scan or ultrasound etc. All such ways are contributing to the learning process. Also include the traditional learning approaches such as attending workshops or lectures, reading medical journals or research articles. All these can be included in the reflection.

Rating the attended events in terms of how useful it was will help in reflecting upon it in a better way. Assess what were good and bad points, what has been learned, what impact it will place on the medical practice and on the patients? Write down any changes which are proposed as result of it.

After attending an educational event, note down whether there is need for further learning in that area or not. If it is required, note down in personal development plan (PDP) the details of how it will be done and when.

Do not just leave the learning for the last minute. Put PDP to action. Make it dynamic and get to work by getting assistance from the colleagues or any resources which you require for its completion during a particular period.

Proper time management is a key to achieving the goals set out in PDP. Keep ePortfolio updated to know which goals has been achieved and which are still to be achieved. Jot down any extra notes that are relevant to the subject to look them up for more details later on.

Sharing the PDP at the team meeting or with the colleagues to get resolution of any problem and know the solution of any issue which may arise to improve the quality of patient care. This also helps towards filling the gaps in knowledge. Note down this personal reflection in elearning log and improve medical practice.

By inculcating all these things, it is possible to improve the process of doctors appraisal and will make it more convenient to achieve the goals of appraisal.
