Manila, Philippines – March is being observed as Fire Prevention Month here in the Philippines – a perfect time to discuss and raise awareness about the causes, hazards, and dangers of fire.
March is the start of the hottest months in the Philippines, and the temperatures rise throughout the country during the first 2 weeks of March. During this month, temperature and humidity rise, and fires usually occur in these conditions. Fire incidents in the country rises during this month.
The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Month is “Ligtas na Pilipinas, Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay Simulan Natin sa Sarili Natin.” This theme emphasizes the role of every individual in promoting fire safety and prevention in their own homes, workplaces, and communities.
During the month-long observance, various activities will be conducted nationwide to promote fire safety and prevention, including fire drills, seminars, and training. These activities are aimed at educating the public on the proper handling of flammable materials, the importance of having working smoke detectors, and the proper use of fire extinguishers.
“Fire Prevention Month is an opportunity for us to highlight the importance of fire safety and prevention, and to empower individuals to take an active role in promoting public safety,” said BFP Chief Jose Embang Jr. “We encourage everyone to participate in the activities we have prepared, and to take the necessary steps to protect their homes, workplaces, and communities from the dangers of fire.”
The BFP and FPAP also remind the public to follow fire safety protocols and regulations, such as ensuring that fire exits are accessible and not blocked, avoiding the overloading of electrical outlets, and properly store flammable materials.
