There were quite a lot of houses found at a damaged and deteriorated state in Edgewood Park area which Daniel Greer taken into notice. The city is now grateful to him as he brought the welfare by developing the civic and communal affairs of the place. A long term part of the Redevelopment Agency he served as board member of Police Commissioners. The crime rate of the area decreased after the community services began to develop.
Previously the houses and the neighborhood were left in the hand of negligence. Daniel Greer took the initiative to modernize the area and work for the betterment as well as maintenance of property. Victorian models were given a new looking along with preservation of the vintage value of the structure. He worked day and night for decades with the help of outstanding craftsmen.
Recently a press conference has been held where the great personality was present. He has been approached and asked about the objective, he graciously replied “the main aim was to make the neighborhood a place to live in by restoring the safety and sanctity of the area. Without a team of keen and enthusiastic craftsmen the initiative would not stand successful as today.” The renewed interest of the people of Edgewood Neighborhood in maintaining their property has the influence of him and his followers.
A former winner of Woodrow Wilson scholarship during his study at Princeton, he went to study at Yeshiva University with the grant. His experiences and world of Talmudic studies has played a very important role before he dedicated his works to New Haven. He also advocated the introduction of English language in the University for the benefit of the student. Once he became the chairman of Yeshiva New Haven, he went on invocating the area of Jewish Community.
Promising to reconstruct the social and structural look of the place, Daniel Greer never failed the local citizen. Under his guidance architects and designers volunteered to work for years in reconstruction of the buildings. After 25 years he has proved to deconstruct and reconstruct the area with local firehouses and police departments. Wherever his assistance was desired, he fulfilled with dedication. His long term effort has finally shown light to Edgewood Neighborhood.
