“Emotional eating, also known as mindless eating is eating food to satisfy your emotional needs rather than your physical hunger”, explains David Reynoso, a well-known NY based nutrition expert who has been helping people overcome their health, diet, & fitness issues for over twenty years.
Last week, David Reynoso held a seminar at his clinic in NY where he spoke at length about emotional eating and how it can be effectively dealt with. He said that it is okay to eat junk food once in a while, but not always as emotional eating, if not controlled, can lead to overeating and eventually unwanted weight-gain.
David Reynoso shared some easy ways to cope with emotional eating, like diverting one’s mind as soon as you experience an eating trigger due to anxiety or stress. This can be done through activities like reading a good book, listening to music, going for a jog, taking a nice bubble bath, playing some sort of sport, talking to a friend over the phone, or indulging in any of your favorite activity. The moment you divert your mind from food and focus on some other activity, your urge to eat automatically goes away. He also advised everyone to stay emotionally strong and make healthy habits a part of their lifestyle.
