Rather than spending millions on a new star player to get fans into seats, they have hired strippers for the pre-game and half-time entertainment in the hope of attracting more supporters to the stadium.

The idea, suggested by club owner Bernard Alpstaeg, may not be as cynical as it sounds. According toAlpstaeg, the idea is to get fans as worked up as possible before the game in order to create the kind of strongly supportive atmosphere that helps players perform at their best.

The move hasn't been put into action yet though – although he has chosen his girls of preference already, Alpstaeg still needs confirmation from the Swiss Football Association that the idea will be allowed to go ahead. Whether or not this confirmation will come is questionable, as the Swiss FA may not be in a hurry to put their seal of approval on naked woman at a football game where families and children may be present.

Alpstaeg doesn't appear to be concerned about the potential loss of families and his younger audience though, exclaiming cheerfully that a full stadium would be 'guaranteed' if his plan goes into effect.

If the plan does go ahead, however, this could have a knock on effect to other teams and other sports. When New Zealand strip company Go Wild were asked if sports shows might represent a potential future market for them, the response was skeptical that such a thing would ever become mainstream locally. However Go Wild has performed at events for sports teams and corporate functions in the past, so if the trend does catch on then anything remains possible.
