Factors to Consider When Choosing Your Next Pillow

Posted December 21, 2020 by Cuddles

The firmness of your mattress influences the performance of your pillow. If you have a firm mattress, you will generally need a thicker pillow. If you have a soft mattress, you can choose a thinner pillow.

Quality pillows can be the single most important investment you make in a good night's sleep. Old pillows and pillows that have been delayed for washing machines can significantly reduce sleeping experience. The ideal pillow should be able to support the neck in the ideal position, and regular replacement is also needed. Believe it or not, one recent study found that up to half a kilo (about 1 lb.) of skin, hair and microscopic organisms live in old pillows!

Here are a few points that you should consider when choosing and buying your next sleeping pillow:

1. Pillow Fillings

There are only two basic choices: natural or synthetic. Natural pillow filling consists of feather, down, or a combination of both. Synthetic filling is mostly made of polyester.

Needless to say, you're going to get what you paid for. The best natural pillows are made of down and provide long-lasting, comfortable and luxurious support for the head and neck. Feathers are also very soft, but not as fluffy as down, and provide firmer support.

Of course, if you're allergic to down or feather, your only choice is a polyester filled pillow. With current advanced technology, some brands of good quality synthetic pillows are also the most supportive and comforting, but make sure you buy products from well-known manufacturers.

2. Thread Counts in Pillow

Thread counts are calculated by the number of threads per square inch of fabric. Generally speaking, the higher the thread counts, the higher the quality, durability and softness of the fabric. Thread keeps the insert in place and keeps the dirt out or the skin in. Thread count is an important factor to consider if you want the durability and quality of your pillow.

3. Sizes

The proper size of your pillow can satisfy your body's needs as well as decorate the overall look of your bed.

4. Firmness of the mattress

The firmness of your mattress influences the performance of your pillow. If you have a firm mattress, you will generally need a thicker pillow. If you have a soft mattress, you can choose a thinner pillow.

5. Warranty

A good manufacturer normally backs up its products with a longer warranty period; the warranty period should be clearly labelled on the product.

When we talk about choosing the perfect pillow, everyone is different and they will have different opinions. The important thing to keep in mind is to choose the one that you feel comfortable with and support the positions that you sleep most of the night.
