It is a platform that given birth to many legendary players, who have inspired both the young and old generations, with their talent and skills. However, this sport has also served its purpose to be the best solution, to perform an exercise that will allow an individual to stay physically and mentally fit, and have good control of the weight. That is why, the Basketball League in Staten Island, has open doors to old-timers to come and experience, the love of playing basketball together, with the others.

Craig Raucher, a businessman who is well-known in the shipping and transportation industry, for his series of success and his intelligence established and founded the Basketball Staten Island League. However, Craig is a big basketball fan, and have loved the sport for a long time, he founded this league in order to help all the individuals, of his age to experience this sport, which they could not do it in their lifetime. However, individuals who are between 30 to 60 years, can come up every Wednesday and Saturday nights, and get to show their skills, aggression, and talent in the court.

The league also hosts their Basketball Pick Up Games, where it will allow the players to improve their mental and physical development, and individuals like lawyers, scientists, doctors, policemen, firefighters, and professors, come together to play as one. The 80-year-old gym is the ultimate location, and since it is indoors, it offered the players comfortable surroundings, helps them concentrate well. Here is something, one of the old members of the league has to say, “We all ourselves to be a league, but it is more like a group of guys playing competitive basketball for many years. Together, we have developed a friendship, love, and respect for each other, and we always look for challenges, in order to keep that spirit of basketball high and offer the new members with tips and advice, to compete in big matches, which is held by our league. Overall, we love basketball and we wish to play it, until the very end”. Currently, the league is offering all the interested individuals to come and join, and get to play the sport they love.

About the league

The Staten Island Basketball League is located at Public School 8, in Great Hills, Staten Island. The league was founded by Craig Raucher in 1980, and it is one of longest and the oldest running league, in the history of the New York’s school system
