The famous dialogue from 3 Idiots states that a machine is something that makes human life easier. The case with an engine is the same.

What is an engine?
“A machine for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy or power to produce force and motion.”[1]
The famous dialogue from 3 Idiots states that a machine is something that makes human life easier. The case with an engine is the same. It is said that humans have used machines to multiply their muscle power by about 2.5 million years. Ever since N. A. Otto, a German invented the first working engine in the year 1898, humans have been dependent on engines for almost everything and they are an integral part of our day to day life.[2]
When your body needs energy, you fuel it up with food and water. Engines are like your body, it needs its own fuel to be able to function. An engine converts this fuel into motion, a process known as internal combustion. For example, for a car to start, the fuel creates a small controlled explosion to generate the power needed to start and drive your car. The small explosions in a car engine occur in an enclosed space, such as the piston in the engine. The explosion forces the piston in the engine to move and this process keeps on going till the time fuel is provided to the engine to keep it running.[3]
Every major structure built in the world and the development of the entire global civilization would not have been possible without engines. It’s said that humans didn’t need engines for almost 99% since our existence, but can’t see a future without them in the foreseeable future. From roads, skyscrapers, dams, power plants, bridges, cars, etc. engines are synonyms with everything that happens around the world. With such a high demand for this invention, there are tons of manufacturers across the world who design and manufacture engines for various uses.
Engines have seen a significant change in the past 10 years. The engines of the early days were more performance-centric and other parameters were not taken into consideration. With research and newer technologies engines have now become more fuel-efficient, lightweight, focused on emission standards, etc. Engines are also now fitted with sensors and have the computing power to maintain the optimum level of performance that is needed, ensuring the engine isn’t overworked. Ruggedness and durability have also improved with engines now able to withstand drastic temperature changes while performing at an optimal level. With new regulations, customer expectations, and changes in the dependent industries like automobiles, agriculture, generator manufacturer, etc. engines will keep on getting more and more efficient. [4]
Cooper Corporation was the first company to manufacture diesel engines in India. They currently have a technical tie-up with Ricardo, UK, for the design state-of-the-art technology for engines, meeting current and future emission norms. The engines are available in diesel and gas versions and in sizes varying from 1.2 -7.8 litre. Cooper engines are known in the market for their compact size, best-in-class fuel efficiency and lowest maintenance costs. With their supreme design features, Cooper engines have proven their performance efficiency in Cooper generators supplied to domestic and international markets. Cooper Corp. engines are being inducted in various other applications like Agriculture, Construction equipment, Marine, Automobiles, Pump, Tractor, and more.
