Lean In and Listen Special Workshop will happen simultaneous to Connections Counselling Perth's Anniversary Celebration!

We are celebrating the 10th Year Anniversary of Connections Counselling Perth on September 17, 2022!

Join our special workshop to be conducted by Rev. Fred Stone and Rev. Karen Siggins. The event will happen simultaneous to our anniversary celebration! They will help us celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Christ centred counselling offered through Connections Counselling by inviting us into their conversation about how the way Jesus lived has become a path along which at our most vulnerable, we may rediscover the dignity and worth that is ours as image bearers of God.

We invite you to Lean In and Listen.

If you read the stories of the life of Jesus, you will see that again and again when Jesus met people who were vulnerable, he leant in and listened. Full of grace and truth, as his friend John described him, Jesus leant in and listened, always leading with grace. He did not meet vulnerable people with judgment or use truth as a weapon. Jesus did not expect those without power and those who were unprotected in some way to be anything other than who they were. Think of the women at the well, the blind man, the children brought by their parents, Zacchaeus, the boy with his packed lunch, the woman so nearly stoned. Every time, Jesus led with grace, and it was in his leaning in and listening that people found a path on which to move towards healing.

About the Guest Speakers

Rev. Fred Stone arrived in Perth from England in 1959 and spent five and half years in psychiatric nursing before training to become a pastor with the Baptist denomination. Training and study in pastoral care and counselling both in London and Perth, he started teaching both subjects at Murdoch and Curtin Universities. Committed to the idea of quality Christian Counselling, he was instrumental in the establishment of Pathways Counselling and Lifeline Counselling before stepping into semi-retirement during which time he spent in counselling and supervision. Now well and truly retired, Rev. Fred still contributes to the community he lives in through active relational engagement and by speaking and writing.

Rev. Karen Siggins has many years of experience as a pastor, leader, and non-executive director in the not-for-profit sector. Her personal and professional motivation centres on the enduring importance of good relationship in all aspects and seasons of life. She currently serves on state and national not for profit boards (Baptistcare and Morling College) and works with the Baptist Churches of WA head office and local churches particularly in areas where demanding conversations and difficult decisions are called for.
